French Parcel Gilt First Standard Silver and Enamel Table Box Made by Janvier Quercia, Paris. This box was retailed by C.siou & Cie, Moscow, Circa 1910. The box features a rectangular shape with a textured metal exterior. The lid is decorated with a central circular panel and smaller oval panels, all featuring colorful cloisonné enamel designs. Cloisonné is a technique for decorating metalwork objects with colored material held in place or separated by metal strips or wires, usually of gold or silver. The box was made by Janvier Quercia. He was an Italian-born jeweler and goldsmith who established a business in Paris in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was taught by his father, Federico, in Caserte, Italy, and later became known for his work in silver, gold, and enamel. His maker's mark, which he registered on June 27, 1899, consisted of his initials "JQ" with an oak leaf in between. The mark was canceled in 1936. H 2-1/4" x L 12-1/4" x D 10"
