A nice late 19th century southern lift top Chest probably Tennessee or Virginia constructed of Walnut with pine and Poplar as a secondary case wood. The person I purchased it from was from Tennessee and told me her family had always used it as a sugar chest. I believe its intended purpose was likely a small or child’s blanket chest. The large dovetailed drawer has one pull replaced. The surface on this piece is an old refinish that is in good condition with a beautiful aged mellow Golden color and a great patina to the Walnut. Working lock and key included. Condition: Good condition with minimal age cracks and surface imperfections. One drawer pull replaced, newer lock and key, lid hinges are original to the piece.
