Beautiful painted bridal chest from Germany, from Franconia to be exact. The chest is painted in a reddish brown color and has painted panels, including the name and wedding date of the original owner. This old paint is quite worn and weathered which gives it a rustic and characteristic look. Sporadically there are some old woodworm marks all over the place, these have obviously been checked and treated. It used to be customary to give wedding furniture like this as a gift to the couple at a wedding. This furniture was then placed on the farm in a showroom that was only rarely used for high visits or special occasions. So a beautiful and decorative piece of history. This one dates from 1854. 56cm high, 133cm wide, 58cm deep.
