American Folk Art Blue Painted Storage Chest Circa 1820

Chairish

$5,750

Dating to circa 1820, this charming American folk art pine storage chest retains its beautifully weathered original powder blue painted surface. The domed lid and front are decorated with hand-painted birds, flowering vines, and a central basket overflowing with blooms, all rendered in warm golden brown tones that stand out beautifully against the soft blue ground. A border of hand-painted hearts frames the lid of this delightful early painted piece. Constructed with hand-cut nails and retaining its early iron lescutcheon, the chest reflects the honest craftsmanship of the early nineteenth century. The untouched pine interior has developed a rich honey-colored patina. Perfect for storing linens, keepsakes, or treasured collections, this versatile chest is equally at home in a country house, coastal cottage, traditional interior, or modern home where a piece of authentic folk art provides warmth and color. Its compact scale also makes it ideal on a console, sideboard, or large coffee table as a distinctive decorative object. Retaining its original paint and wonderful age-related patina, this is a charming and increasingly scarce example of early American painted furniture. American, Circa 1820 Height: 12 1/2 In. Width: 30 in. Depth: 13 1/2 In.
