Antique Cherry Carved Provençal Bread box / Pannetière This cabinet boasts seven acorn-shaped finials at the top. The door has two beautifully carved birds in the wood. There are additional floral motifs at the top and on the apron. To protect the delicious baked goods, the cabinet has beautifully turned spindles on the front and two sides of the case. The door has a beautiful brass hinge and a round, twist-to-lock knob. The cabinet has a single internal shelf, providing two surfaces to store the bread. Can be used today simply as wall decor or to store linens in a bathroom or kitchen. The Pannetiere appeared in the Southern part of France during the 18th century to safely store bread, most notably in Provence.
