At a time when bread, which was a precious commodity, had to be kept at least for a week, strange small furniture appeared. Originally from simple wooden cases, it was in Provence in the 19th century that the panetières became more and more sophisticated. This Provencal panetière is no exception. It opens through a surface door mounted on an iron hinged with functional original lock called safe with input and key. The low cross and the pediment, cut off, are embellished with patterns of flowers and scrolls.
