Antique Japanese Hibachi Cabinet

Chairish

$1,575

This striking antique hibachi cabinet is a rare piece of Japanese history & culture that features exceptional craftsmanship & timeless wabi-sabi appeal. Made in the early 20th century (circa 1920), it was traditionally used as a brazier, housing hot coals in the sunken top compartment while offering storage for tea tools, charcoal, & a variety of other utensils below. Crafted from richly grained kayaki hardwood (sometimes called, ‘Japanese zelkova’)—the surface showcases dramatic tiger-striped figuring that really highlights the cabinet’s natural beauty. The piece features three graduated drawers on the right side, along with two more drawers near the base. The metal insert, made from solid copper, is completely original & the compact proportions of this piece make it versatile for modern living. The cabinet also comes in two pieces: the cabinet itself & the rectangular frame it rests upon. Antique hibachi cabinets like this one are rare & almost never have their original components intact — yet, this one does! Perfect as an accent chest, entryway console, or conversation-starting bar, this piece blends functional design with historical character. Whether styled in a Japandi, wabi-sabi, or eclectic interior, this rare piece of history effortlessly adds warmth & authenticity to any space.
