Chinese glazed storage jar with a square tapering body having rounded corners and decorated to each side with a bird themed panel. The flowers, birds and other decorative elements were individually hand cut and then applied carefully by hand. Jars like this were used to store preserved eggs, fresh water, live fish, and used for all other kinds of storage purposes. Often, when no longer needed as storage jars, holes were drilled in the bottom and they were repurposed as flower pots or planters. Early to mid 20th century. #0030JWHcpk48
