Sculptural Brutalist Copper Table Lamp, Organic Form, 20th Century

1st Dibs

$3,509

Unique sculptural table lamp, second half of the 20th century, executed in hand-worked and patinated copper. This one-of-a-kind piece stands out for its strong brutalist character combined with an organic, almost biomorphic aesthetic. The openwork stem features twisted, flowing lines with a hammered (martelé) surface, rising from a fluid, root-like base that evokes vegetal or natural forms. The craftsmanship highlights the expressive qualities of copper, emphasizing texture, movement, and material depth. The truncated pyramidal shade, also in copper, displays a rich polychrome patina in reddish, ochre, and green tones, achieved through controlled oxidation processes. When lit, it produces a warm, atmospheric glow that enhances its sculptural presence. While unsigned, the piece shows strong stylistic affinity with works by French sculptor-designer Olivier Julia, particularly in the organic brutalist treatment of copper. A related floor lamp by the same hand, signed Olivier Julia, is known, reinforcing this attribution.A striking statement piece, ideal for collectors of French brutalist design and unique artisanal lighting.Origin: EuropePeriod: Second half of the 20th centuryMaterials: Hammered and patinated copperStyle: Brutalist / Organic ModernCondition: Very good vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and useDimensions: 71 × 45 × 33 cm
