Large Neo-Renaissance Ceramic Plates, 1930, Set Of 2

Chairish

$1,751

A wonderful pair of large glazed and vitrified ceramic plates, entirely hand-decorated with two different scenes in the large girelli, one of fishing and one of hunting, with characters in seventeenth-century clothes very similar to the characters depicted in the ceramics of the montelupo fiorentino factory. The brim, however, is much narrower than the girello and is adorned with heraldic shields, floral wreaths and flowers. The two plates are always dated on the girello, february 9, 1931 and on the back, instead, they are marked with a rare and particular mark made by hand with a brush tip, consisting of an olive branch and some intersecting letters, among which an "f" and an "s" are clearly visible, on the two sides of a large "t" superimposed on a cross. On one of the two plates, the same mark is inserted inside the sail of a boat made in blue. Under both brands is written the city of production "rome" and the dates, on one 31-9-1931 and on the other 4-1-1932, probably the second plate was finished the following year. We are certainly talking about a ceramist who worked in one of the famous roman furnaces of the early 1900s, famous and recognized internationally for the importance of the ceramics made, especially in futurist style, by artists such as, for example, dulio cambellotti, ferruccio palazzi or lanni. The measurements are important, the two plates are very large and have a very thick ceramic biscuit, considering that we are talking about over 42 cm in diameter and a weight of over 5 kg for the pair. This piece has an attribution mark, i am sure that it is completely authentic and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
