This delightful mille-fleurs (thousand flowers) tapestry was originally woven in the Loire Valley Workshops in France in the 16th Century. The mille-fleurs style became very popular in the 15th and 16th Centuries, and was possibly inspired by the custom of strewing cut flowers on fte days. A knight in full armour is riding his battle-horse and carrying a splendid banner on which the emblem is a red dragon. The coat of arms in the corners are probably those of the original commissioner of the tapestry. This tapestry hangs today at Montacute House, a National Trust property near Yeovil in Somerset. This beautiful tapestry is woven on a jacquard loom by skilled weavers, keeping alive the centuries old tradition of tapestry manufacturing from generation to generation. This tapestry is fully lined incorporating a sleeve along the top for hanging with a Hines hanging rod. Alternatively, this tapestry can be hung with a wooden batten which is a concealed method of hanging.
