A handsome matted pair of antique bird prints featuring a Chimney Swallow and Green Woodpecker, originally published in R. Bowdler Sharpe’s A Hand-Book to the Birds of Great Britain, part of Lloyd’s Natural History, 1896–1897. The pairing works beautifully as a decorative natural history set: the Chimney Swallow has a long, elegant silhouette against pale grasses, while the Green Woodpecker brings stronger color with green plumage, a vivid red crown, and soft woodland detail. Together, they have a moody library-style presence that feels especially strong in the black mats. Each plate is titled beneath the image and marked with its plate number at the upper right: Plate XXVIII, “Chimney Swallow,” and Plate XXXII, “Green Woodpecker.” The visible imprint reads Wyman & Sons Limited. These are original antique chromolithographic prints from the 1890s, not modern reproductions. Presented as shown in black 8 x 10 in. acid-free mats with acid-free backing boards.
