1928 Impressionist Painting "Le Midi" Southern France Landscape By Adolphe Milich 1884-1964

Chairish

$2,850

A fine painting, reminiscent of the famous "Mont Saint-Victoire" paintings of Paul Cezanne, this work by the Polish-born French painter ADOLPHE MILICH (1884-1964). The piece is signed at lower right by the artist and an old reverse label gives the title "Le Midi" and the 1928 year of execution. Measurements are 18 1/2" by 21" (29" by 33 1/2" in interesting quality wood frame). Milich was born in Tishne, Poland. In the early years of the new century he studied art in Warsaw and Munich, including some time with Franz von Stuck in 1903. The young artist traveled around Europe, especially in Italy, before arriving in Paris in 1909. He became a friend of Jules Pascin. After 1920 Milich spent most of his time in Paris. The Mediterranean landscape from the South of France to the Holy Land was his favorite subject (Le Midi is a term loosely used to refer to most of the southern, Mediterranean-influenced areas of France). He painted other paintings with this title in the mid to late 1920's. Milich also painted skillful portraits, and still life.
