1930's pre-war portrait of a young woman seated before a winter landscape. Oil on canvas in original gilt wood frame. Measures 35" x 30" framed. Good condition. Harry Farlow (1882 - 1957) is an accomplished portrait painter who was active in Connecticut, New York City and Chicago where he was born in 1882. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1902 to 1904 and in 1906, when he also went to Cincinnati to study for three years at the Cincinnati Art Academy with Frank Duveneck. A brief return to the Chicago Institute for more study in 1909 was followed by enrollment at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts as a student of Edmund Tarbell. In Connecticut, he was a member of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts in Hartford and the New Haven Paint and Clay Club. In New York City, he was a member of the MacDowell Club and the Salmagundi Club.
