An excellent vintage First Edition offset lithograph, print, after Persian painting "Ardawan Brought Before Ardashir" from art folio published in Switzerland in 1940. First Limited edition. The original painting is from the SHAHNAMA of Firdausi, separated from a manuscript which has been dispersed throughout the world since it was on the market in 1912. Probably painted at Tabriz about 1330. Collection of M.Henri Vever, Paris. Printed on heavy wove paper, on one side. Numbered at the lower left corner: 2. In battle against Ardashir, Ardawan is taken prisoner, brought before Ardashir. Ardawan (Artabanus) was the last Parthian king: Ardashir, son of Sasan, a herdsman but of royal descent, and the daughter of Park, prince prince of Fars, was a founder of the great Sasanian dynasty.
