Signed in the plate in the lower left corner: "Picasso". The title, size, and other information on the original painting will be found by lifting the piece. Printed on 1 side. First American Edition. Excellent condition - never used. 11"W x 14.75"H overall 8" x 10" H image only Picasso was briefly interested in sculpture and, after a short trip to Holland during the summer, his painting became more objective. Even in the Boy with a Pipe, so closely related to the pictures of the circus performers, Picasso's attitude seems more detached. the face is that of the taller boy in the painting reproduced on the lithograph Two Saltimbanques with a Dog (which is also offered for sale at our Print Shop on Chairish), but Picasso's interest is formal rather than narrative, and the backdrop of painted flowers throws the figure into bold relief. Boy with a Pipe is one of the first paintings of the Rose period.
