Chairish

$191

A vintage reproduction print of antique Ukiyo-e woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige, from his series, "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tōkaidō Road". Crossing the Abe River before arriving at the Nineteenth Station: Fuchu. In the title block: "The Abe River". On the right, three women accompanied by a servant cross the river. The bearers specialized in crossing rivers wear only a loincloth - Fundoshi - and are known as Kumosuke. The style of illustrated books of this period is well represented by the way of drawing the characters in this scene. This reproduction print is not a woodblock reproduction, but offset, full-color print. Detailed. Comes from a rare art folio published by Editions du Credit Lyonnais in Paris, France, in 1960. Printed in France, on one side of high-quality heavy paper. Blank back, numbered on the back: XX. Excellent condition - minor edge wear, never pinned, never framed.
