Michael Challenger "His Black Eyes Snapped Shut" Engaging op art lithograph by British artist Michael Challenger. A series of geometric square forms spill down across the paper. Bright saturated tones of blue, turquoise and aqua. Limited edition lithograph on wove paper is hand signed, titled and numbered by the artist. Signed Challenger 70 lower right. Limited Edition 142/150. Professionally framed in a black decorative modernist frame. Michael Challenger (born 1939): Painter, sculptor and printmaker; born in Kent, studied at Goldsmiths' College School of Art 1960-64 and then at the Slade School of Fine Art 1964-66; for two years he taught at Goldsmiths' 1968-70 and at the Slade 1970-72; awarded the Sainsbury Prize for Sculpture in 1966; from the late 1960s showed his hard-edge geometric prints, paintings and sculpture at the London Arts Gallery, as well as in New York, Detroit and in Verona, Italy, where he kept a studio in the mid-1970s; lives in London. Work size measures 21" wide x 15" tall. Framed size 22.5" tall x 29" wide x 1" deep. In very good condition.
