Michael Challenger (born 1939): Painter, sculptor and printmaker; born in Kent, studied at Goldsmiths' College School of Art 1960-64 and then at the Slade School of Fine Art 1964-66; for two years he taught at Goldsmiths' 1968-70 and at the Slade 1970-72; awarded the Sainsbury Prize for Sculpture in 1966; from the late 1960s showed his hard-edge geometric prints, paintings and sculpture at the London Arts Gallery, as well as in New York, Detroit and in Verona, Italy, where he kept a studio in the mid-1970s; lives in London.
