Hinds worked as a graphic designer for about 15 years in New York but left to pursue sculpting and painting full-time. He studied casting techniques in Bologna, Italy before returning to the United Stated and settling in Santa Fe. Hinds was a United Nations Artist, living in the Caribbean where he taught and directed art programs. His world travels are frequently reflected in the themes of his art.
