Signed lower left, 'Henri Buron' for Henri Lucien Joseph Buron (French, nd dated lower right 1927; additionally signed verso and dated. A charming, cabinet-sized, oil on panel showing numerous parishioners in native Breton costume leaving Church after Sunday service beneath a clouded blue sky. Born in Rouen, Buron studied first in Rouen and, later, in Paris where he was a student of Francois Cormon and Albert Lebourg. A member of the Société des Artistes Française, he exhibited at the Salons from 1924 and was awarded a gold medal there in 1935. Buron won a variety of other awards and medals, including at the Universal Exposition of 1937 and was later appointed professor at his old school, the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Rouen. Henri Buron's work is held private and public collections including the permanent collection of Honfleur Museum. The artist is also listed in all relevant art-reference works, including Benezit's Dictionary of Painters which offers a signature sample. The painting is displayed in a custom-made, 22kt gold leafed frame made by Richard Tobey & Son. Reference: E.
