His subjects often were trim well-bred, well dressed girls in drawing rooms, and the figures were described by one critic as "things without existence anywhere". He also created still lives, landscapes, and murals, and one of them was installed in the New Amsterdam Theater in New York City.He was a member of the National Society of Mural Painters and the Society of Illustrators, which he co-founded and served as President in 1902.Wenzell is best known for his illustrated book The Passing Show, Copyright, 1898, 1899, 1900 by P.F. Collier & Son. Copyright 1900 by Robert Howard Russell.He also did mural work for the New Amsterdam Theater in New York City at the turn of the last century and did numerous early 1900 magazine covers including the December 1906 cover for The Saturday Evening Post.He studied in Munich, in Paris at the Academie Julian with Gustave Boulanger and Jules Lefebvre in 1888.
