An original oil painting on canvas by Gaston Vaudou, French artist 1891-1957, "An Alpine Lake - 1921" scene of the lake looking from the heights, the shore to the left shows a beach, a roadway, houses, a village in the distance, two sailboats on the lake, to the rear are distant mountains, 14 3/4" x 21 1/2", signed G. Vaudou 1921 in the lower left corner front. CA number 3969, CA purchased from a west of England auction house winter of 2025. The painting has been surface cleaned of dirt and grime and varnished in order to protect the paint film. It has been reframed in 2 3/4" antiqued gold with burl panel moulding. The stretcher bars are original French stretchers that have no keyways. Vaudou was born in Tours, France and died in Paris. He was a painter of landscapes and portraits in oil colors and gouache and active in Vevey and Paris. The work was originally framed in the early to mid 1920's by C. Soar & Son, London.
