Antique 1840 “The Bury Hunt” Hand-Colored Engraving — Proof Impression, Agar/maiden/bromley/zanetti

Chairish

$1,400

A rare and significant antique English hand-colored engraving — a Proof impression of “The Bury Hunt,” one of the most celebrated British fox hunting prints of the 19th century. Published January 1840 by Joseph Zanetti, 100 King Street, Manchester, and by Ackermann & Co., Strand, London. Painted by C. Agar, animals by J. Maiden, engraved by F. Bromley. Respectfully dedicated to Edm. Grundy, Esq. of Bury, Lancashire, with the Grundy family coat of arms. The word “PROOF” is clearly printed in the lower margin — indicating this impression was pulled before the regular published edition, making it rarer and finer than standard examples. The hand coloring is rich and vivid — huntsmen in red coats, horses, and a full pack of hounds in a Lancashire landscape. Presented in a later silver-toned frame with double mat and red pinstripe detail. Condition: Good antique condition consistent with age. Some glare visible from glass in photos — the print itself is well-preserved.
