Late 19th-Early 20th Century antique American seascape painting of waves crashing against a rocky shoreline by Hamilton Irving Marlatt. Gouache and watercolor on paper, housed in its original carved wood frame with light bronze- gilding. C. 1900 Sight: 21.5"x27" Frame:29.5"x36" H. Irving Marlatt was an illustrator and painter born in Woodhull, NY in 1867. Marlatt was based in New York throughout his career but made painting trips to the West as early as 1887. While in southern California in 1916, he painted a view of the Santa Barbara Mission and other local scenery. His illustrations often appeared on the covers of Literary Digest. He died in Mount Vernon, NY on Oct. 10, 1929. His work included landscapes, portraits, Indians and western genre. Member: Salmagundi Club; NAC; Cleveland AA. In: Mount Vernon Public Library.
