Franciscus Valdesius ( Valdez) is known is known as the Commander of the Spanish troops during the surrounding in 1574 of Leiden (seen over his shoulder in the background), engraved by Cornelis Visscher (1628 - 1658), who collaborated with the publisher Pieter Soutman in a series of four numbered portraits commemorating key figures in the siege story.
