Dahlia 11 By Philip Gatward, Botanical Fuchsia Floral Photograph

Dahlia 11 is a gorgeous Archival Inkjet Print by contemporary photographer Philip Gatward. This print 16" x 20" in a limited edition of 50 prints. Gatward's first personal project, 'Dahlias', focussed on the intricacies of this unusual flower. A soft pink blends with coral and salmon hues to create this stunning portrait of a Dahlia. Gatward captures the flower in full bloom, expanding outwards to reach the sunlight and the world. The outermost petals have started to fade gently with the sunlight, creating a graduated effect as the petals reach the innermost structure of the flower, a neon-sharp fuchsia. The structure of the Dahlia itself is pleasingly spherical and creates an overall calming effect on viewers. In this ongoing and varied series, Gatward shoots his subjects, which range from flowers to animals, against the same neutral grey background, which brings out the fascinating symmetry of seeing something seemingly ordinary from very close up. The stunning variety and intense colours of these images are irresistible.
