Not glamorous but highly significant collection of everyday household cleaning tools in this still life by listed Canadian artist Dorothy Violet Bywater-Schust (1918-2010). Dorothy Violet Bywater-Schust of Peterborough, Ontario, was originally from Toronto where she became the president of Don Valley Art Club. She excelled in painting, sculpture, stained glass and woodcarving. She was also an accomplished seamstress and dress designer and avid gardener. She loved to paint outdoors and was a life member of the Kawartha Artists Gallery and Studio. Her paintings hang in collections in England, San Francisco, Detroit, Vancouver and Toronto to name a few. Dorothy was a vibrant, humorous, witty unique person whose motto was “YOU HAVE TO BE CREATIVE ALL YOUR LIFE.”
