Early 1900's Baltimore Brownstone Street Scene Painting By Artist Lilian Giffen

Chairish

$795

Baltimore Brownstones, c. 1900 Lilian Giffen, (1872-1950) Framed in original frame and mounting. Measures 11 inches wide and 16 inches high in frame. Gouache. Very nice condition with light wear to frame. Colors bright and crisp. This is a lovely smaller scale vertically oriented streetscape from the turn of the last century by a Baltimore female artist, Lilian Giffen. Ms. Giffen was a wealthy lady who studied painting and was actively involved in the arts in Baltimore and in New England. This street scene features brownstones, snow, and no cars! Despite the bleak winter treescape, the scene is cheery with a bright blue sky, and cozy townhomes. Lilian Giffen (American, 1872-1950).  Baltimore painter, writer, and lecturer, her oil painting "Beach Scene" is held at the Baltimore Museum of Art. She is listed in BALTIMORE'S FORGOTTEN WOMEN Painters and Printmakers of the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries.  She was also the author of  The Ghost of the Belle-Alliance Plantation: And Other Stories, 1901.
