Before Woodstock New York was known for its music festivals, it was known as a retreat for artists. Samuel B. Wylie (1882-1962), a native Mid-Westerner, ventured there and remained until his passing. He spent his years painting the Catskills and other Northeastern landscapes. This one depicts a scene with the Catskill foothills in the background. Impressionist in style, the colors are muted and hazy, emulating a hot summer day. A wonderful addition to any collection.
