Chinese flower and bird scroll, freely drawn colored inks on heavy paper, mounted on a red gold and light gray floral silk brocade, with numerous red seal marks in various sizes and shapes. The image size is 25 1/4" wide x 51" high. With a dark bronze silk makio and kakio at the top and black jikusaki at the bottom. The outer scroll covering is of a light gold raw silk. Circa early 20th century, no later than mid century. A few faint striations are visible upon close inspection that dissolve at near distance, otherwise excellent vintage condition. In the foreground, a kingfisher perches on a lotus plant stem hanging over a rushing brook, amid reeds, a few submerged branches, large red and white lotus flowers and their fan-like green fronds. Her mate is perched on a gnarled, dormant branch of the old leafy branching willow tree above.
