Early 20th Century Rockport Seascape Oil Painting By Arthur J. Hammond

Chairish

$1,500

This 1938 oil painting on board by artist Arthur J. Hammond captures a moody seaside scene of waves crashing against rugged rocks at sunset in Rockport, Massachusetts. Rendered in thick, expressive brushstrokes the work reflects a modernist sensibility, conveying both movement and atmosphere with a restrained yet emotive palette. It is presented in a double beveled, textured wood frame with a wide border that gives the piece added weight, depth, and importance. Hammond is a listed painter. Signed, titled and dated on the verso. ABOUT ARTIST ARTHUR J. HAMMOND A portrait, marine and landscape painter, Arthur Josiah Hammond (A. J. Hammond) was born April 3, 1875, in Vernon, Connecticut.
