Fabrizio Clerici, Untitled, 1980s, Lithograph

Chairish

$349

Lithograph on paper. Hand signed and numbered. Edition of 88/125. Very good condition. A compelling and enigmatic image by Fabrizio Clerici, master of Italian surreal and metaphysical vision, depicting a silent studio interior staged with theatrical precision. The composition is dominated by two large easels set within an austere architectural space, their rigid geometries echoed by the patterned terracotta-and-white tiled floor, rendered in meticulous perspective. On the left easel appears an upside-down portrait of a long-haired figure, delicately drawn in sanguine tones, introducing a disquieting sense of suspension and inversion. The subject’s exposed hands and feet, together with the intimate scale of the depicted body, suggest vulnerability and psychological tension, while the reversed orientation transforms the image into a surreal icon—at once classical and unsettling. Facing it, an empty easel stands like a mute counterpart, reinforcing the theme of absence, expectation, and the enigmatic nature of representation. Clerici’s refined technique and controlled palette heighten the atmosphere of stillness, evoking a dreamlike stage where the act of painting becomes both ritual and mystery. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
