Fran Levin - Signed, C. 1980s Modern Watercolor Collage Abstract Expressionist

Chairish

$2,000

A modern watercolor collage on paper by Michigan artist Fran Levin. Circa 1980s. Hand signed in pencil on the lower right. From a private collection. Dimensions: 50.5"h x 56.25"w x 1.5" d (framed). In good vintage condition. This expressive Abstract Expressionist work features layered washes of pigment interwoven with torn and reassembled paper fragments, creating a vibrant sense of depth and motion. The interplay of saturated reds, blues, and earthy tones evokes both emotional intensity and lyrical rhythm. This artwork exemplifies Levin’s mid-century–inspired approach to abstraction through spontaneous gesture and material experimentation. Fran Levin is a Troy-based abstract artist whose work reflects a lifelong dedication to creative exploration and expressive form. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in art, Levin began painting in high school in Pittsburgh and went on to develop a distinctive style that blends liquid acrylics, collage, and watercolor techniques. Her paintings often begin with a water-washed surface, allowing colors to organically merge and evolve into layered abstractions. Levin has exhibited at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center (BBAC) and has been an active member of several art and cultural organizations, including Hadassah, the National Council of Jewish Women, and the Birmingham Society of Women Painters. Her work is celebrated for its intuitive energy and abstract interpretation of emotional and visual experiences.
