French 17th Century Classical Figure Engravings By François Perrier- Set Of Six

Chairish

$2,800

Finely framed and with high quality filage decorated charcoal colored matting, these six original engraved plates come from the publication “Segmenta nobilium signorum et statuarum quae temporis dentem invidium evasere” (Paris, 1638). They were produced by author, artist and printmaker François Perrier (1590–1650). Perrier lived in Rome and absorbed both style and substance that would influence his work. Very assured in execution, the images present Roman sculptures, brought to life with a sense of movement in the finely delineated drapery detail. The images from his publication were an influential resource for contemporary and later artists interested in capturing the style and gravitas of classical art. In 1648, Perrier became one of the founding members of the Académie Royale in France. Very good condition, paper with minimal signs of age: a few specks, minor areas of toning. Plate impression marks are all visible, well inside the matting. H: 17 ¼ W: 13 ¼ D: 1
