French 19th century framed lithograph print of a seaside fort at some unknown locale, simply titled "Chateau fort sur le bord de la mer", roughly translating to a "castle on the seaside". Rendered in a monochromatic grayscale, the scene is dominated by a large tower in the background, rising above stone walls protecting the compound from the sea (as well as two cannons ready to fire) with a schooner raising its sails for departure. In the foreground, the corner of another seawall offers shelter to a dinghy tied up, with several figures on the narrow ledge taking in the action. Note that the paper is foxed and creased down the center, enclosed by a gorgeous gilt picture frame of similar age and condition that shows multiple areas of loss.
