Scarborough is a lithograph on paper realized by the artist James Duffield Harding. Signed on the plate on the lower left. Titled on the lower center. Engraved by W. Finden The state of preservation is good, only a yellowed paper along the edge. James Duffield Harding (1797 - 1863) Landscape painter, and lithographer. Working in London, he made frequent visits to France, Italy, Switzerland and Germany. Harding was initially taught by his artist father, he later studied watercolour technique under Samuel Prout. Harding first exhibited drawings at the Royal Academy in 1811. He exhibited for the first time with the Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1816 and was elected a member in 1821. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history.
