George Thompson Pritchard -Bridge over a Pond -Impressionist Oil panting c1920s oil painting on canvas board - Signed circa 1920s frame size 19 x 19" board size 16 x 16" Artist Biography Born in Havelock, New Zealand on April 11, 1878, George Pritchard studied in Aukland at the Academy of Art, the Elam School of Art, and the Melbourne Academy of Fine Arts (1901). Upon arriving in San Francisco in 1906 in the aftermath of the earthquake, he produced many paintings during his three-year stay. A few years were then spent in Milwaukee before journeying on to Paris for further art study at Académie Julian, and at the Vanderheldt Academy in Amsterdam (1911-14). During WWI he lived in Canada, New York City, and Richmond, Virginia. Pritchard lectured and exhibited at colleges and universities throughout the South. In 1935 he settled in southern California and had studios in Glendale and Santa Monica. He taught art at his studio, exhibited regularly with the Glendale and Santa Monica Art Associations, and painted many landscapes and seascapes. He died in Reseda, California on Feb. 26, 1962.
