Wind is not weather in this painting, it is the organizing principle of the entire composition. This wide panoramic work gives the force of a coastal gust room to move: figures lean into an unseen pressure, clothing pulled sideways, the whole composition pressed into an urgent diagonal that the horizontal format amplifies. Painted in oil on board with the fresco painter's instinct for broad, committed marks, the image has the quality of something observed quickly and remembered precisely. The palette runs cool, blue and ivory predominating, with the particular brightness of the Tyrrhenian coast on a day when the wind has cleared the air of everything soft. One of the largest and most kinetic works in this collection, A Windy Day makes a commanding statement on any substantial wall. Its panoramic format and strong directional energy make it ideal for a living room, dining room, or reception space where a single dominant work is called for. Giampaolo Talani (1955–2018) was born in San Vincenzo, Tuscany, on the Tyrrhenian coast, and trained at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts under Goffredo Trovarelli. After completing his training, his work moved from traditional and fresco painting through sculpture and interpretive exhibition, culminating in his passion for public art — most notably a 20-meter bronze sailor installed in the Port of Miami and installations at Berlin's East Side Gallery. He was exhibited at the Venice Biennale (2011), the Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi, and the Pinacoteca del Quirinale, and received the prestigious Lorenzo il Magnifico Lifetime Achievement Award at the Florence Biennale in 2015. The painting comes with a certificate of authenticity.
