This is a stunning Original Mixed Media Painting on Paper by Listed California Artist, Hendrik Grise (1914-1982). Grise was a prolific artist who was part of many of the major art movements of the mid-20th Century. He studied at the Chicago Art Institute and the Dallas Museum School of Art before coming to Southern California in the late 1940s, where he consistently exhibited his work. He was friends with several artists from the New York School, including Mark Tobey who was close to Jackson Pollock. The influences of his time are clear in his bright, fluid works. Featuring energetic layers of color, sweeping gestural forms, and dynamic splatter techniques, this is an excellent example of Grise's depth and ability. Bold passages of red, blue, yellow, green, black, and white create a visually engaging composition with strong movement and depth. The work demonstrates Grise's distinctive spontaneous approach while maintaining a cohesive and balanced overall design. The reverse shows an unfinished studio composition, offering an interesting glimpse into the artist's working process. It is signed in the lower right and it sold unframed as shown. Provenance and Certification: We bought the bulk of Hendrick Grise's estate in 2015 and are beginning to market his works and introduce him more broadly to the public. Condition: Very good vintage condition overall. Minor handling wear consistent with age. A small tear is present near the lower right edge.
