This is a stunning Original Mixed Media Painting on Paper by Listed California Artist, Hendrik Grise (1914-1982). Grise was a prolific artist who was part of many of the major art movements of the mid-20th Century. He studied at the Chicago Art Institute and the Dallas Museum School of Art before coming to Southern California in the late 1940s, where he consistently exhibited his work. He was friends with several artists from the New York School, including Mark Tobey who was close to Jackson Pollock. The influences of his time are clear in his bright, fluid works. This piece is a standout among Grise's work. Done in the early-1970s, this luminous work rivals the paintings of some of the highest-regarded artists of the period. Featuring sweeping cobalt blue forms layered with energetic splatters and gestural passages in red, yellow, orange, black, and turquoise, this is a must-have for the collector.
