This is an excellent Large Original Mixed Media Painting on Paper by Listed California Artist, Hendrik Grise (1914-1982). Grise was a prolific artist who was part of many of the major art movements of the mid-20th Century. He studied at the Chicago Art Institute and the Dallas Museum School of Art before coming to Southern California in the late 1940s, where he consistently exhibited his work. He was friends with several artists from the New York School, including Mark Tobey who was close to Jackson Pollock. The influences of his time are clear in his bright, fluid works. The work combines bold geometric forms with expressive gestural brushwork and vibrant passages of red, blue, yellow, black, and green. A striking triangular form anchors the composition while energetic organic elements and layered splatter effects create movement and visual tension throughout. Signed lower right and dated 1973.
