The artwork was created in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to offer a message of hope, faith, and freedom.  It depicts children collectively painting an American flag on a wall using their handprints to represent the diverse population of the United States.  There are seven children in the painting, each representing one of the seven continents.  A lithograph of this painting was presented to President George W.
