La Pique is a contemporary artwork realized after Pablo Picasso (1881-1973). Original color linocut realized in smaller size after a linocut by Pablo Picasso of 1959. Passepartout included. Very good conditions, except for minor signs of foxing on edges. The linocut image shows vivid and fresh colors. This work is part of an outstanding edition realized by Gerd Hatje in Stuttgart in 1962, as German edition of the French one realized by Galerie Leiris and published by Edition Cercle d'Art. The composition describes a fighting scene, the moment when the bull is skewered on the ground by the bullfighter's spear. Pablo Picasso is one of the key figures of modern art, regarded as the creator of Cubism. He made original artworks and developed new imagery and formal syntax. In addition to this, Picasso realized wonderful etchings and linocuts, which exemplify his immense talent also as a printmaker. Linocuts form a relatively small part of Picasso’s oeuvre as a printmaker, however some of his most extraordinary compositions were produced using this method in a short burst of activity between 1958 and 1963. The artist, at the age of 78, turned away from etching and lithography – his favourite means of graphic expression – and embraced the linocut technique.
