Before Currier & Ives, there was N Currier: This original iconic “American Country Life – May Morning” lithograph was originally published by N. Currier in 1855 out of his 152 Nassau Street location in NYC. Two years later in 1857 he joined up with Ives so cementing his / their place in US history. This classic Americana scene features riders on horseback passing an elegant country estate with female figures tending the garden. This is one of the most iconic images from the American Country Life series. This piece displays the original publication line and imagery of the 1855 print but is most probably a C&I reprint dating a little later - probably late 1800s / early 1900s.
