This etching reproduction depicts two ivory diptychs from the Catholic cathedral in Beauvais, France. The title reads "Diptyques d’ivoire dont on croit le travail antérieur au IIe. siècle conservés anciennement dan le trésor de la cathédrale de Beauvais" (Ivory diptychs, whose workmanship is believed to predate the 2nd century, formerly kept in the treasury of Beauvais Cathedral). This print is part of a larger book by the artist Nicolas Xavier Willemin (1763-1833), titled Monuments français inédits pour servir à l'histoire des arts depuis le VIe siècle jusqu'au commencement du XVIIe, published in 1839. I have several of these beautiful etchings listed and these would make a stunning wall display grouping.
