Mid 20th Century Oil On Canvas By Lily Birnbaum Javits, Red Armchair Still Life, Framed

Chairish

$1,400

Description Original oil on canvas by Lily Birnbaum Javits, depicting a vivid red armchair set within an atmospheric interior, accented by a loosely rendered blue floral still life resting on the seat. Executed in expressive, confident brushwork, the composition balances saturated reds and blues against softly abstracted architectural tones, creating a strong focal point with layered texture and movement throughout. Lily Birnbaum Javits began painting at the age of 65 and went on to exhibit her work in galleries in New York and Palm Beach. A native New Yorker, she was deeply engaged in the arts and education, serving as a director of the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan and as a founder of the Palm Beach Festival. She was also part of the prominent Javits family, which included her brother-in-law, U.S. Senator Jacob K. Javits. The painting is presented in its original ornate carved frame with repeating foliate detail, which complements the warmth and character of the artwork. The surface shows expressive layering and visible brushwork consistent with the artist’s late-life, intuitive approach to painting. A compelling vintage work with strong decorative impact and meaningful provenance, ideal for modern, eclectic, or collected interiors. Dimensions 35 in H × 25 in W × 2 in D (framed) Condition Good vintage condition consistent with age. Scattered surface wear and light abrasions. Frame shows minor age-related wear. Presents well.
