Mid 20th Century Walter Emerson Baum Delaware Valley Winter Scene In Pastels

Chairish

$4,450

A beautifully composed and subtly colored Winter Landscape scene by the Pennsylvania artist, Walter Emerson Baum. Predominant colors are russet/coral and deep royal blue. The dramatic composition is comprised of exquisitely stroked areas with lively and energetic lines. The subtly blending of colors are offset by the stark white of Winter snow and the black trunks of leafless trees. Baum (1884-1956) was a central figure in the New Hope School, an important entity in the Delaware Valley art scene working in American Impressionism in the early 20th C. From his work, teaching and leadership emerged "The Baum Circle" of artists either taught or directly influenced by this active and inspiring artist. This landscape is done in pastels on artist's sketching board. It measures 13 inches x 9 1/2 inches, and is set in framing matts with a 2 1/2 inch ornate carved gilt frame.
