About the artwork: This late 1950s-1960s Mid-Century Modern painting uses geometric forms, saturated colors, and sharp lines to depict rolling green wheat fields intermixed with other crops against a mountain backdrop. A ray of light falls on a village of small houses and buildings clustered in front of a church that dominates the settlement but is almost insignificant within the vast landscape. No humans are visible, only their works – the houses, the church, the cultivated fields. The artist shape-shifts the landscape and perspective, alternating rays of brilliant greens and blues to set off earth and sky and using black shadows to signal cliffs and boundaries beyond which lay untouched lands.
