Mid Century Carmel Monastery Beach California Impressionist Oil Painting Beautiful impressionist style painting of iconic Monastery Beach in Carmel by Charles Hulett (American, 1903-1907), circa 1950. This painting displays Hulett's technical abilities as an artist and his affinity for the impressionist style with its classically high horizon, muted colors, loose painterly daubs of paint as brushstrokes. His palette knife work with the rocks and waves adds a dramatic flare and further dimension to the painting. His art career started in Hollywood High School, drawing cartoons for the school paper. Hi studies line drawing under John Miles then furthered his study in fine arts under Christian Von Schneidau, Theodore Lukits, A.S. Keszthlyi, George Olson and Donna Schuster, Ralph Holmes, John Hubbard Rich. He attended Otis Art Institute and Art Center. In addition to painting, he was also an art conservator. His paintings won awards and exhibited frequently in Southern California.
