1955 oil on canvas by the famed American Scene painter Dorothy Eaton (1893-1968). Nicely scaled and composed scene of a New England church in autumn with churchgoers milling around. Great coloration with bright blue sky and fall colors coming to trees. Eaton was a well respected chronicler of the American scene, specifically New England rural life showing community life and historical architecture. She had many museum shows during her life and is well represented in many collections. Her work is a wonderful blend of folk art influences and modernism.
